High quality solutions from DAN-doors for new state-of-the-art logistics center

Frigoscandia has just inaugurated an impressive new food logistics center in Hyllinge, Sweden. The extensive facility spans 36,000 m2 and is expected to have an annual throughput of around 1 million pallets. Built by food logistics construction specialists Logicenters, the facility is designed to handle different temperature requirements, including frost, different levels of chill and normal temperature zones.

Tailor-made solutions for energy optimization of a high-availability cold store

Frigoscandia's new facility has environmental ambitions to achieve BREEAM Excellent certification for energy-optimized operations.

Among other things, the facility is equipped with solar panels on the roof and a number of choices have been made to help reduce the building's operating and energy costs.

DAN-doors' solutions support the vision by enabling targeted measures to reduce energy loss. Among other things, the doors' efficient insulation ensures that cold loss is minimized, and the high opening and closing speed limits the time the doors are open so that cold air does not escape unnecessarily.

Energy savings should be achieved through minimal temperature fluctuations between different zones

A lot of work has been done to ensure minimal temperature fluctuations between the different temperature zones to keep the pressure on the compressor to a minimum. For example, a sluice system has been created from the loading houses to the freezer room to keep the delta low, and insulated gates have been installed on conveyor belts between chill and freezer and between cooling zones with temperature differences.

High reliability and very low service costs

It is not only in terms of energy consumption that the solutions from DAN-doors are economically attractive. The High Speed doors supplied are specially developed for cold storage warehouses and have a number of logistical and operational advantages that benefit Frigoscandia. The highly insulated doors are extremely robust and designed to withstand the busy environment that is common in logistics centers.

This means they can withstand collisions without breaking or requiring service visits, and there is no downtime associated with collisions. The doors can withstand temperatures as low as minus 30° Celsius without freezing, and they don't require an additional door to protect against freezing during the quiet hours of the night. For Frigoscandia, this means they were able to invest in just one door per opening.

For the facility in Hyllinge, a classic gray door cloth has been chosen, but other colors are also possible.
