European standards for fire doors

Read more about the transition from BS60 to EN certification

A common certification creates certainty

Certified and approved according to the strictest EU standards

On November 1st 2019, the BS60 certification, which until then had been the Danish certification for fire doors, expired. This means that since the. 1st of November 2019, it has not been permitted to use BS60 doors as fire doors in facades.

The use of BS60 doors is still permitted on the inside of buildings if the doors are used for passenger traffic.

All fire doors installed in facades must now be CE marked to be approved for use under European legislation.

CE marking means that the fire door complies with European legislation, and European certification ensures that all European countries now work to the same certification for fire doors.

CE marked fire doors at dan-doors

CE-MARKED FIRE DOORS AT DAN-DOORS

At DAN-doors we have fire doors that are approved according to:

  • BS60 (DS-1052.2)
  • EI²30
  • EI²60
  • EI²120 (EN-16034-1)

All our EI fire doors for facades are CE marked, so they comply with the European standard for fire doors. Our fire doors are produced according to customer requirements and are approved as long as they stay within the maximum and minimum dimensions of the certificates.

If you want a CE marking for your fire doors, they must be tested according to the standard EN1634-1 request for the CE marking. For smoke doors, they must be tested to standard EN1634-3.

In addition, your FPC (Fire Protection Controller) must be approved by DBI Certification A/S.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BD AND BS MARKING VERSUS CE MARKING

The overall difference between the two certifications (BD and BS classifications versus CE marking) is that BS doors are tested from one side only, whereas EI doors are tested from both sides of the door.

The European classified fire doors can always be offered in tenders where BD or BS doors are defined.

However, this is not the case the other way. If European classifications have been defined, these must be followed.

If you have any questions about the European markings for fire doors, or how the certification process works - please feel free to contact us.
