17 Profile doors for Dybkærskolen in Silkeborg
Dybkærskolen in Silkeborg is something as unique as a newly built primary school. With a blank piece of paper, all options were open to the architect, and a wide range of conscious choices were made to create a modern and contemporary school with space for learning, immersion, study and creativity.
The role of architecture
The school is built in reddish-brown bricks with a zig-zag roof construction, which already upon arrival shows that some unconventional architectural choices have been made. So do the different sizes of the windows and their placement, which break with classic flush lines, both of which signal that this building is meant to be lived and played in.
The interior is built with warm, natural materials that are calm and quiet. Many small zones are integrated where students can immerse themselves in project and group work, and the classrooms have different types of seating and privacy options. Various oases have been created around the school to encourage activity, community and movement, and natural light has been designed throughout the school, which has a positive effect on students' (and teachers') mood, circadian rhythm and immune system.
Discreet steel doors that blend in with the wall
The 17 facade doors supplied by DAN-doors are profile doors with highly insulating glass sections and an upper window section. The frames are made of stainless steel, which is an extremely robust material with a very long service life and a recycling rate of more than 90% when replaced. The choice of material supports the requirement to keep the need for disposal to a minimum. The architectural choice of glass doors and extra window section contributes to the good light in the premises, and none of this is accidental.
The people behind Dybkærskolen wanted doors that, both in terms of architecture and choice of materials, supported the strategy of creating the best learning environment in buildings that meet the strictest sustainability requirements. The frames of the facade doors supplied by DAN-doors are painted in a color in the same color scale as the bricks, and the doors therefore become an integral part of the buildings.
DAN-doors' role as a supplier
DAN-doors has delivered solutions to various educational institutions in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Common to the projects are extremely high demands on quality and security, but the choice of solutions depends on the individual institution, its purpose and users.
For Dybkærskolen, it was important to find facade doors that would meet the requirements for good light and indoor climate for well-being and learning. For other institutions, fire curtains, fire doors, security doors and fire-resistant glass doors have been chosen. Anything is possible, and for DAN-doors it is important to advise on what is possible and which solutions best match the specific project in terms of purpose and aesthetics.
At DAN-doors we consider it our responsibility that our customers make informed choices, and at Dybkærskolen we are proud to have been a small part of a large project with vision and dedication to quality and sustainability.
